Running for a Cure: St. Anne’s joins the Terry Fox National School Run

On Friday, Sept. 20, St. Anne’s proudly participated in the Terry Fox National School Run, joining schools nationwide to honour one of Canada’s most beloved heroes. The event was a heartfelt celebration of Terry’s courage and determination, bringing students, staff, and families together to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

The day began with a special presentation from the Grade 5 class, who performed a moving song in tribute to Terry’s enduring legacy. Grade 6 students followed with reflections on the values Terry embodied—perseverance, hope, and selflessness—offering inspiring perspectives on how his story resonates today. After a school-wide warm-up, the community set off on a run around the campus, fueled by Terry’s mantra: No matter what.

This year, St. Anne’s raised an impressive $1,230.50, with contributions coming from students dressed in casual attire for the day. Middle School students submitted donations during their morning advisory, while Upper School students contributed through their Period 1 teachers. These funds will go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation, supporting groundbreaking cancer research initiatives across Canada.

Terry’s dream was to find a cure for cancer, and his story continues to teach us about the power of resilience and the impact one person can have. Through the Terry Fox Run, we aim to inspire our students to become leaders and agents of positive change in their community.

The Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $850 million for cancer research since its inception, funding advancements in treatment, detection, and prevention. St. Anne’s is proud to contribute to this vital mission and to keep Terry’s spirit alive in our school community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this meaningful event. Together, we are proving that, just as Terry believed, “Anything is possible if you try.”
