This past weekend, St. Anne's School proudly supported two dedicated teams at the highly anticipated VEX V5 Robotics Competition hosted at Ashbury College. Demonstrating enthusiasm, technical prowess, innovative designs, strategic thinking, and collaborative spirit, the SAS teams made an unforgettable impact.
In an impressive display of talent, both SAS teams advanced to the final rounds, showcasing the strength of their preparation and teamwork. Their outstanding performance highlighted the dedication and skill that define the SAS robotics program – “one that empowers students to develop confidence in engineering, programming, and design while fostering inclusivity and encouraging young women to pursue opportunities in STEM,” says Emilia Macdonald, SAS Robotics Coach.
As a leader in robotics programming, SAS offers students diverse opportunities to engage in competitive robotics through multiple avenues, including RoboParty in Grades 7 and 8 project-based learning, VEX IQ through Middle School Arts, RoboCup in the Grade 11 Engineering course, and VEX V5 through ACPlus. “These experiences equip students with the skills and confidence to excel in a traditionally male-dominated field, empowering them to take space in the world of robotics,” adds Ms. Macdonald.
St. Andrew's College also participated in the event, sending five teams, with two of them earning spots at the Provincial Championships. The collaboration between SAS and SAC continues to foster a strong robotics partnership, further enhancing the students’ experience in competitive robotics.
Beyond the excitement of the competition, SAS students embraced the opportunity to build camaraderie with their friends from SAC. They capped off the day with a festive Lunar New Year dinner, indulging in all-you-can-eat sushi—a perfect way to unwind and reflect on their successes.
Congratulations to our SAS robotics teams for their outstanding performances. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to cheering them on in future competitions.
